Our Place Hackney and Community Closet are very excited to announce the Community Closet’s #christmas2020 campaign!

#100gifts100kids will be running from 1-15 December, and the team are aiming to collect 100 gifts for 100 local children in our community this Christmas. We will be grateful for any donations – a toy, a book, clothing, toiletries, anything up to the value of £10 – wrapped or unwrapped.

Alongside the present drive, there is also a GoFundMe campaign that we’re hoping will raise £250 if you would prefer to donate and let us buy the gifts.

All gifts will be given out to families in the local area between 21-24 December, so follow #100gifts100kids to see when Santa will be arriving in #Hackney!

How to get involved

  • 5-7 years
  • 8-10 years
  • 11-13 years
  • 14-16 years

Drop off your gift– wrapped or unwrapped – between 1-15 December to:

About the project

Community Closet is a project founded by Krista Brown.

I have wanted to launch a clothing bank for children for a long time, and retired from a high-profile career in security and events so I could focus more on community-based projects. As a children’s author and also a tutor and youth worker, I see child poverty at ground level and therefore wanted the Community Closet to be a project that aims to reduce that in its own small way.’ #reducereuserecycle

The Community Closet is supported by the Our Place Hackney, part of VCH. Opening Jan 2021, the Community Closet is a sustainable project, with everyone volunteering and all donations being given back out to the community for free. The project will also be supporting some overseas charity projects for children. We will be forming partnerships with other local youth and family organisations so they can refer any families directly to us. Corporate retail donations of 300 new school uniforms per year are already in the bag and we have lots more planned.

Designed like a shop, people can simply pop down & pick up!
