Woodberry Down Volunteers

Genesis Housing Association and Volunteer Centre Hackney have come together to create a volunteer programme for Woodberry Down residents.

Find Out More About the Project and Current Opportunities by Reading the March 2012 Newsletter

I have been volunteering for 5 months now and I am still really grateful that I got the opportunity to do something for my neighbourhood and at the same time being able to improve and use my skills and knowledge. Volunteering has changed my life because I have recently been offered a job at one of my voluntary placements.

The volunteering opportunities are within all areas of interest, gardening, administration, mentoring, befriending, animals, children, elderly and much more.

Volunteering is a great way to fill gaps on your CV, build your confidence, try a new role if you are considering a career change, give something back to the community or just want to do something with your spare time.

Laurens joined the project when he moved to London from Holland, volunteering has helped him feel part of his community.

I have been volunteering for couple of months and have really started to feel a part of London and its people. It gave me a lot of confidence that helped me aquire the paid job I currently hold. There are not enough words to describe how important voluntary work is for a city like London.

Have a look at the case studies page to read about Laurens’ experiences and see the difference volunteering is making to people’s lives.
