Conversation facilitator/starter – MATCH
Can you use your voice to drive equality of access in the local health sector? You could lead conversations and discussions for the MATCH programme, which brings together residents and people in the healthcare sector to identify key local issues facing ongoing inequalities. The programme then works with partners to pinpoint and put in place ideas for change.
Community Befriender
All you need to become a Community Befriender is an hour every week to check in with someone in your community who is vulnerable. We’ll match you with the right person, based on your interests, schedule, language, and whether you’d like to meet in-person, or speak on the phone or online. Our expert team gets 5 referrals a week for lonely and isolated City and Hackney residents from healthcare professionals and other support organisations. Join us over the festive period, and help make sure people who are isolated or lonely feel valued.
Community Health Champions
Help improve the health and wellbeing of Hackney’s diverse communities by becoming a Community Health Champion. The Community Health Champions programme amplifies the voices of global majority groups, helping to improve access to healthcare and develop better healthcare communications for these communities. As a volunteer, you’ll spark change by giving your feedback on healthcare in Hackney and what needs to improve. Benefits include NHS-endorsed training, the chance to network with friendly volunteers, and of course the chance to really make a difference in Hackney.
Events and Awareness Volunteer
Transform the lives of people with the bowel diseases Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis as an Events and Awareness Volunteer for Crohn’s and Colitis UK. You’ll flex skills across a range of tasks, such as fundraising, events, social media, and grants. Not only will you support those in your community, you’ll build a range of skills which can help you get ahead in your career. There are opportunities all over east London, so why not broaden your horizons and get involved?
Play/support workers
Do something kind in Hackney by assisting children with learning difficulties as a play/support worker with St Monica’s Catholic Primary School. You’ll assist teaching assistants and work with children with conditions such as autism or difficulties developing speech. The role could be a surefire route into education, social care, or working with people with learning difficulties. What’s more, you’ll develop emotional intelligence, people skills and communication abilities so you can really wow employers with your CV in the future. Don’t delay sending an application!
Reading coaches co-ordinator
Support reading coaches as a reading coach co-ordinator with Reed Easy Hackney. As coaches teach adults in Hackney to read, you’ll assess new readers, match them to coaches, observe reading pairs, and provide certificates to readers. Full training is provided, and this is a great opportunity to develop people skills, tutoring abilities, and a diplomatic manner. You’ll be empathetic, clear-cut when needed, while you’ll also have a sense of humour and an approachable demeanour. Apply today if you want to support reading coaches in Hackney and boost levels of adult literacy.
