We know this is a hard time for many people and you may have a variety of support needs. This could include:
- Groceries pick-up and delivery
- Prescription pick up and delivery
- Telephone befriending
- Welfare Advice
- Translation
- Help with banking
We will be taking referrals and requests for help to deliver shopping, and collect prescriptions, working closely with the NHS and local pharmacies, to ensure there is a quick and safe process for deliveries for vulnerable individuals. Our volunteers are properly screened and we will prioritise people who need this essential service. If you know of anyone who needs this help, or you need this help yourself,
If you know of anyone who needs this help, or you need this help yourself, please fill in this form to explain what you need and Hackney Council will direct you to the right support. Alternatively, please telephone 020 8356 3111.
For prescription collection specifically, in the first instance, you must try to contact your pharmacy by telephone to ask them to deliver your medication, and contact any friends or family who are able to deliver your medication. However, we recognise that it can be very difficult to get through to pharmacies at the moment because they are so busy, and that you may not have anyone to help. Volunteer Centre Hackney are working to support the delivery of medications to people who are unable to collect their regular medications.
To report that you or someone you know needs help or support, please report this to Hackney’s community support hub by completing this form or calling 020 8356 3111 if you have limited or no access to the internet, and we will make sure that your prescription is collected and delivered. If it is very urgent, please mark URGENT on the form.
For local residents in receipt of support during this time, here’s some tip for keeping safe and reporting a safeguarding concern
- Don’t give out your pin number, bank card or personal details, in person or on the phone.
- Never hand over money, send money or sign anything unless you know and trust the person.
- Don’t answer emails from people you don’t know, or click on any links in those emails. Check an organisation’s website to check if it’s legitimate if coming from an organisation.
- Do not let people into your home. If a volunteer drops food to you there should be no contact.
- Make sure that if you hand out data (such as your address, full name etc) that you know who will be using it and how it will be stored.
- Seek help from trusted neighbours and friends, or charities, local agencies and faith organisations.
