Volunteer Centre Hackney Chief Executive Officer Lauren Tobias took to the red carpet at February’s Love Hackney Awards 2025, as Charmain Humphrey won the Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Read the full list of winners here.

Lauren said: “It was an honour to be at the Love Hackney awards. Volunteering is the lifeblood of Hackney.

“People give so much of their time and themselves to help others, and it was so lovely to see such incredible Hackney residents and organisations being recognised and appreciated for their achievements.”

Charmain has over 25 years of experience volunteering in the Hackney community. She’s renowned for her time supporting Immediate Theatre.

Other Love Hackney Awards went to Joel Gibbons, who won Volunteer of the Year after volunteering with the SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabled) community, and Cameron, who won the Young Hackney Award and The Good Neighbour Award thanks to his efforts raising £3,000 for families to purchase school uniforms.

We should also give a shout-out to the Core Arts/Core Landscapes, who picked up the Community Group of the Year Award and Greener Hackney Award. This organisation aims to improve mental health through projects such as painting, music, and horticulture.
