When the opportunity to stay with VCH’s Step Up programme came, I snapped it up, and have now been with the Step Up Team for over 8 years.

The programme supports people with their mental health recovery journeys through volunteering.

I love this project because it works for its members’ benefit. We provide the long term support for members, and they know that we will do what we can to get them to where they want to be.

Now I am the Senior Progression Coach on the project, and no two days will ever be the same. I meet members, find out what they like to do, host events, organise volunteering sessions, and take clients to interviews or introduction sessions. I like that every day is different, that we can work at our members’ pace, and not pressure people to make moves.

Every member is different, with their own unique story, own memories and experiences, good and bad, but they are fighting for a better future. Even though its hard, they stick with Step Up, for however long it takes.

Every member of Step Up has their own unique strength, and I’m happy that I can give a little support to get them to a better place.
