“Step Up has been like magic.”

Help people achieve their life goals as part of a highly respected project that’s been running successfully for six years.

We are looking for a dynamic and engaging Employment Adviser to join our established and highly respected Step Up project at Volunteer Centre Hackney and help people with mental health issues and other high support needs into paid employment. Step Up has been part of Hackney since 2015 and works well with all statutory and voluntary mental health services. With funding from City and Hackney Clinical Commissioning Group, Step Up is a well-established member of the City and Hackney Psychological Therapies and Wellbeing Alliance.

We provide intensive individualised support to people to enable them to start and continue a successful volunteering placement and ultimately, progress into employment. Through workshops, training and individual support, people are supported to gain confidence, vocational skills and resilience with a reduction in social isolation.

We are seeking a candidate who has a real understanding of the barriers faced by people who have extensive mental health support needs, and who may have never worked in a paid role, to progress towards life goals. You must be very well practiced in delivering support to people in writing CVs, job applications, cover letters, in job searching and interview practice, and you must also be able to deliver group workshops.

Benefits of the role:

You will join a supportive environment with strong values of enabling people to progress in their lives. We offer flexible working, a generous annual leave allowance, monthly group therapeutic supervision and the opportunity to receive ongoing mentoring and training as you need. At VCH, all staff work closely together to tackle challenges. You will receive ongoing support and be given flexibility and creativity to develop your own working style, with the support of your manager and colleagues.

£28,000 per annum pro rata

To apply, please send your CV and cover letter outlining how you meet EACH point of the person specification in the Job Description to [email protected] by Friday 8 October at 5pm. In both your CV and cover letter to reduce the chance of unconscious bias during shortlisting, please do not include your full name and instead just put your initials. Please also send Fabienne the Job Application Form A and Job Application Form C (Equal Opportunities Form) which will be kept separate.

You can also send your application by post to Fabienne, Volunteer Centre Hackney, 12-13 Springfield House, 5 Tyssen St, London, E8 2LY.

We actively encourage people from all backgrounds including people with disabilities or support needs to apply for this opportunity as we really want applicants to reflect the diverse demographics of Hackney residents!

If submitting a written application is not the best way to tell us about your skills and experience, please let us know and we will discuss your needs with you.
