Amurt UK is seeking more volunteers to join their team helping to prepare meals and energy bars to our community. Opportunities are on 24th and 31st December and on each Thursday thereafter. Next week the National Food Service will be packing big bags of groceries, homemade meals, household essentials and a few festive treats for 150 of our neighbours who are experiencing food insecurity right now. To make this happen they need your support and are looking for volunteers from 21 – 24 December!

The National Food Service are also running a ‘Christmas Chat’ campaign. This can be an isolating time of year for many people. If you would like a friendly, heartwarming chat with someone over the festive period, email [email protected] with the subject title “Christmas Chat” and they will match you with a neighbour!

Sick of lockdowns? Want to help the community get back on its feet? We’re recruiting COVID Vaccine Stewards to help the roll-out of vaccines to key workers and those most vulnerable in Hackney. With training supplied and following COVID-secure guidelines, you’ll help guide individuals to register on arrival and help reassure them before their vaccination.

If stewarding isn’t your cup of tea, we’re also in need of COVID Vaccine Administrators to help welcome and book patients in for their vaccines – providing a vital service and helping get Hackney back to normal.

Got a bike or car and want to help bring some festive cheer this Christmas? We’re looking for volunteer Christmas Card Delivery Elves to help collect Christmas cards written by Hackney school children and deliver them to residential and care homes across the borough. A one-off role, volunteers will need to be free on Tuesday 15th December between 10am and 2pm. Contact us at [email protected] if you’d like to take part.

Woodberry Aid are also in need of volunteers to help pack and deliver festive hampers on 18th December to help make Christmas special for families in need across Hackney. For more information and to take part, contact Euphemia on 07549 158050 / [email protected].

Food delivery services are in need of drivers and packing volunteers to help deliver hot meals and Christmas hampers to local residents in needShoredich Trust are looking for Community Table Deliver Volunteers to deliver 600 freshly prepared meals a week, and BADU and Renaisi are likewise looking for volunteers to pack and deliver Christmas support parcels to families in financial distress. VCH receives regular requests for delivery volunteers, so let us know by email if you’re keen to do a role that fits around your schedule at [email protected].

Want to use your creativity to help others? VCH is looking for volunteers to create festive cards containing messages of love and hope to send to local people experiencing isolation. We’re even hosting a live group card making session!

If you’re passionate about health and wellbeing, local charity Choice in Hackney are looking for Walking Friends to help disabled people get outdoors, as well as volunteers to offer relief to disabled people experiencing social isolation through their telephone befriending service.

If you’ve got finance, business or fundraising experience, help local organisations continue to fund their essential workRead Easy are looking for a Fundraiser to help raise funds for their amazing work improving adult literacy in the borough, and AFRIDAC are also looking for a fundraising volunteer. Hackney Council are always keen to hear from local people with previous experience in funding or grant applications to help support a range of local organisations in applying for bids – contact Lisa-Raine for more information at [email protected]

Want to connect? VCH are always looking for Community Supporters to give local people a call and help reduce loneliness and isolation in the community. We’re particularly interested in hearing from people who speak community languages such as Polish, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi, or Italian.
