People from underrepresented communities are more likely to engage with healthcare services when they’re recommended by someone local in their community, according to research commissioned by the UK Government and Leeds Beckett University.
Our team works with trusted representatives of local communities who share their insights, around health barriers, enabling vital health messaging to be tailored and shared with local people.
About the Service
The Community Health Champion Programme supports positive health outcomes for City and Hackney’s diverse communities.
The programme provides opportunities for Community Health Champions to connect with healthcare services and over 85 voluntary and community sector organisations across City and Hackney.
Community Health Champions give a voice to individuals and communities with varying levels of access, awareness and knowledge of healthcare information, services and referral routes.
The programme brings champions and associated communities into the design and development of healthcare, by identifying and addressing barriers and providing tailored training and support.

Lovely to meet in person with my fellow Hackney Community Champions and other Champions in London. It’s an evening I will remember for a very long time.
An excellent and rewarding service to work on… Definitely helped reach areas of the community that mainstream channels would not be able to target. It felt that we were very much part of a community.
