Hackney Night Shelter Volunteer
This is a fantastic role for someone who wants to make a real difference in their local community by supporting people without a home. Our greatest need is for people who can give an evening on Friday or a period of time over Saturday or Sunday, serving food and drinks, chatting with guests and helping to keep the shelter a safe and friendly place to be. Shifts vary in length from 3-4 hours.
Conversation facilitator/starter – MATCH
Can you use your voice to drive equality of access in the local health sector? You could lead conversations and discussions for the MATCH programme, which brings together residents and people in the healthcare sector to identify key local issues facing ongoing inequalities. The programme then works with partners to pinpoint and put in place ideas for change.
Community Befriender
All you need to become a Community Befriender is an hour every week to check in with someone in your community who is vulnerable. We’ll match you with the right person, based on your interests, schedule, language, and whether you’d like to meet in-person, or speak on the phone or online. Our expert team gets 5 referrals a week for lonely and isolated City and Hackney residents from healthcare professionals and other support organisations. Join us over the festive period, and help make sure people who are isolated or lonely feel valued.
Gamcare Community Engagement Ambassador Volunteer
Gambling impacts over a million people in the Greater London area. That’s why Gamcare are seeking ambassadors to help raise awareness of gambling harms and make a difference within local communities. Duties include promoting events, attending wellbeing events, and sharing information about gambling and gambling harms. You’ll also have the chance to speak with families and young people in your local area about concerns related to gambling, so this is a wonderful opportunity to support your community while also learning more about addiction and social issues.
London Feeding Programme volunteer, Chop n’ Chat
Do you fancy crafting new culinary skills? This Chop ‘n’ Chat Volunteer role with AMURT UK is just for you! You’ll help prepare plant-based meals which are then distributed to the homeless and vulnerable people in Hackney. What better way to support your community, meet new people, and brush up on your food prep skills? What’s more, you don’t even need any cooking experience.
Reception Volunteer
Provide a friendly welcome to people without a home at Providence Row’s day centre. You’ll greet guests, assist them at the centre, take up admin duties and provide anything from lunch tokens to shower supplies. If you’re friendly, approachable and willing to turn your hand to a range of tasks, you’ll certainly fit the bill.
